I'm an avid brunch'er but somehow this was only my first time to Toast! Had a good experience though, so I'm sure it won't be my last.
A group of my friends and I went on a Sunday morning (aka peak-brunch time), so we used the *waitlist* feature. Ummm... FAVORITE feature on the app for sure. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend. Our table for six was ready upon our arrival, and the place was packed. They asked if we were okay with sitting outside, in which we were, so they brought us out to the patio that runs along side the building. It was actually a chiller morning than we had realized (#WisconsinProblems), but it was still enjoyable.
I think all of us struggled with what to order because there genuinely seemed like so many good options... all the brunch things you could think of. Clever menu too, all 70s themed. I ended up getting the rappers delight (white beans * corn relish * cotija cheese * avocado ranch mayan side salad * spinach torilla) and was certainly satisfied with it. Other's had things like southwest steak and eggs, chicken and waffles, the fried chicken fattie, and the maple bacon pancakes. Most everyone ordered a brunch cocktail as well
Good vibes and good food!
I went in hoping they would have a shorter wait time than the other restaurant I went to and they did!
Me and my friends were able to sit at the bar and eat. The menu is very affordable. The mimosas are great! Make sure you get the entire bottle!
The food I had was amazing, I wish I had a picture. I'll make sure to get one next time.
Zak's is Toast
I really miss the previous iteration of this space, but Toast is good in a pinch. The menu has some good options, and staff is friendly but it's just a little more bland and definitely quirky. There are definitely better brunch options in the area.
Quirky, retro and pretty darn good.
Come for a traditional breakfast or an upscale brunch. The menu is eclectic. I started with hot tea for my beverage and was surprised to see some unique flavors. Tried the ginger turmeric and it was a great surprise. All of the teas are loose leaf and steep in the perfect little pot. Had to have one of their donuts. The apple fritter was okay, more of a mini cake and the apples were not softened in the cooking.
Several dishes enticed my tastes and I settled on huevos rancheros, a bit of a risk as Toast is not in the southwest. Turns out Toast knows what it is doing and came out with a top notch plate. They layered black beans between the tortillas, tasty.
It can be crowded but time it right and you may have the place to yourself. Either way "pretty darn good."
This was such a fun spot for lunch! We stopped here on our way into Milwaukee and I loved the atmosphere. It is 70s themed with a lot of fun colors and records on the wall. Our server was really friendly and the food was great! I had avocado toast and it was much better than a basic avocado toast. My dad had the donut of the day, Mexican chocolate, and said it was delicious. I would love to come back sometime and would encourage tourists to check it out!
